Week of 3/17-3/22

Welcome to the Local Sports recap, which was brought to you by Carson Olson.

Spring Sports have officially all started up except a few which are coming soon.

Girl’s Soccer had their first few games and in their home opener, they won against Orion-Sherrard 5-0, with Eliana Juarez (Sr.) scoring 3 goals! Over the weekend they traveled to East Peoria and participated in their first tournament of the year. Streaks finished 3rd in the tournament. Streaks take on Alleman at home on Tuesday.

Baseball opened their season at the Metro East Classic in Southern Illinois, finishing 1-3 against some tough competition. Their first game was a close loss to Collinsville, Braley Burford (Sr.) finished the game 3-5, and Caden Riley (Jr.) opened it with 3 scoreless innings. In game 2 against Oswego, Oswego jumped out to an early lead and held it throughout the rest, Caleb Claeys (Jr.) and Nicolas Ojeda (Jr.) had the Streaks only two hits. Streaks fell in game 3 to Triad, Streaks combined for 3 hits, one each from Burford, Ojeda, and Tyree Taylor (Sr.). In their final game, the Streaks dominated Harrisburg combining for 2 hits and 11 runs, ultimately winning 11-3. T.J. Heatherly (Jr.) threw 3 scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. Streaks open up at home on Wednesday.

Streaks Softball, lost their first game of the season 10-13 to Orion. Streaks had a huge game from Hannah Barton (Jr.) going 2-5 with a home run, and two RBIs. Streaks made a late resurgence but ultimately ended short. Streaks will play Abingdon/Avon on Thursday at 5:30.

Saturday Streaks Girls Track and Field hosted their 17th Annual Invitation, Lily Furrow (Jr.) finished 2nd in the 60m hurdles, Galesburgs 4x200 Relay composed of Ella Herchenroder (So.), Taylor Herchenroder (So.), Ava Marty (Fr.) and Khloe May (Jr.) won the event. Furrow finished 3rd in the 400m. Galesburg’s 4x400 relay made up of E. Herchenroder, T. Herchenroder, Furrow, and Grace Herchenroder (So.) finished 1st.

Boy’s Track and Field competed at the same event, with their 4x200m relay finishing 3rd, Isaac Jasper (Sr.), Kevin Phillips (So.), Jamar Range (Sr.), and Richard Schleich (Fr.). Streaks won the 4x400, relay with Jasper, Schleich, Range, and Demetrius Watson (Jr.).
